Collection Name: | Lowveld Fire Danger Index |
Acronym: | LFDI |
Description: | A DevCoCast product, the current fire danger rating model used in parts of South Africa is an adaptation of a Fire Hazard Index developed by Michael Laing in Zimbabwe in 1968. The basic model uses the same inputs as the McArthur models, which are scaled to produce a simple model that can calculate numbers easily without needing any complex calculations. It is often referred to as the Lowveld Fire Danger System since this is where it has been most widely used. Note that the process by which the system was developed, and the assumptions that were made, were never documented. |
